BOISE— Family Services Alliance of Southeast Idaho (FSA) in Pocatello, received $1,000 from the Home Partnership Foundation on Dec. 5. The funds will help FSA continue its mission to promote safe and healthy families, work to end physical and mental abuse, and provide victim support.
The funds are part of the Avenues for Hope Housing Challenge, an online campaign launched by the Foundation last month. Over $25,000 in challenge grants are being awarded by the Home Partnership Foundation to encourage direct community investments that will support shelters and safe housing for Idaho’s homeless and most disadvantaged.
FSA received a $1,000 Early Bird challenge grant for being one of the top five nonprofits statewide in the challenge with the highest number of gifts received by Nov. 30. FSA will continue to collect donations for the challenge via www.avenuesforhope.org until Dec. 31, which means the nonprofit is still eligible for additional challenge grants, ranging from $500 to $5,000. The KeyBank Foundation will also offer two leadership grants of $1,000 to the two nonprofits with the highest number of donors making gifts of $100 or more.
“We are thrilled to be one of the recipients of the Early Bird challenge grant award. It speaks to Family Services Alliance’s donor-base and community support,” said Sarah Leeds, FSA executive director. “Pocatello and South East Idaho are active communities that support our work to respond, intervene and prevent domestic and sexual violence. They are so supportive of our mission and keeping individuals and families safe at home! We appreciate all the Home Partnership Foundation has done to support FSA through past grant awards and through this Avenues of Hope Campaign.”
During the Oct. 1, 2010 – Sept. 30, 2011 year, Family Services Alliance provided 1,167 nights of emergency shelter to 56 adults and 54 children who could not be in their own homes due to safety issues related to domestic violence.
The other four state nonprofits also receiving $1,000 Early Bird Challenge grants include Advocates Against Family Violence, Caldwell; CATCH Inc., Caldwell; CLUB Inc., Idaho Falls; and The Jesse Tree of Idaho, Boise.
The Foundation, which was created by Idaho Housing and Finance Association (IHFA) in 2005 to help people build a strong foundation for their lives through stable, safe and affordable housing, is coordinating the fundraising efforts at www.aveunesforhope.org. Participants (both donors and nonprofits) can track their positions online and compare their fundraising efforts to other organizations.
The Avenues for Hope Housing Challenge expects to raise over $50,000 –including donations and challenge grants– to help prevent homelessness in Idaho. Give today to service providers in your area by logging onto www.avenuesforhope.org. Together, we can freeze out homelessness and families off the street in our communities this winter.
