The 8th annual Avenues for Hope Housing Challenge to help Idaho’s homeless kicked off today. The 20-day online campaign, organized by The Home Partnership Foundation and Idaho Housing and Finance Association, supports 55 nonprofits that manage the day-to-day work of serving more than 7,000 students and 4,000 Idahoans affected by homelessness. Money generated through the Avenues for Hope campaign allows participating nonprofits to maintain and expand their housing support programs and homelessness prevention services.
Avenues for Hope helps the chronic and temporarily homeless, including domestic violence victims, veterans, people with disabilities, vulnerable youth, seniors, and low-income Idahoans. Since its inception in 2011, the campaign has raised more than $2.2 million for Idaho nonprofits.
“Providing a safe and stable home to all Idahoans is one of the core beliefs of our organization,” said Gerald Hunter, president of Idaho Housing and Finance Association. “Through this community effort, we can help our neighbors struggling with homelessness receive the care and support they need.”
This year, every participating nonprofit’s donation will be matched dollar-for-dollar up to $3,000. Donors can direct their tax-deductible gifts to one or more of the 55 participating nonprofits. Donors can also give a general donation to the campaign that will be used to address needs identified across the state.
The Home Partnership Foundation, along with Idaho Housing and Finance Association and 40 other businesses sponsoring the campaign, are contributing more than $200,000 this year in matching funds and challenge grant prizes to be awarded to participating nonprofits.
