BOISE, Idaho – Homeless Idahoans will continue to receive vital services to prevent and end homelessness statewide, thanks to federal grants of $3.7 million from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).
Through a coordinated grant application submitted by Idaho Housing and Finance Association (IHFA), $2.7 million will be allocated to 13 homeless service providers throughout Idaho. Additionally, a successful grant application was also submitted by the Boise City/Ada County Continuum of Care, allocating $901,578 to support Ada County homeless services.
As the administrator of the $2.7 million award, IHFA is pleased to receive funds for the 27 projects it submitted. This federal money will help house the homeless and provide for essential services, such as job training, healthcare, mental healthcare, substance use treatment, life skills counseling, financial literacy training, and child care.
“HUD grants help strengthen and shape services for Idaho’s homeless families and individuals, giving them hope for a brighter, more independent future,” says Gerald M. Hunter, president of Idaho Housing and Finance Association. “Our team did a tremendous job crafting the grant application to maximize the funding received for homeless services in Idaho.”
Two types of housing services will be funded with the HUD awards:
Rapid Re-Housing (RRH): 7 projects for a total of $447,680
Programs to help the homeless move as quickly as possible into permanent housing and achieve stability through a combination of rental assistance and supportive services.
Permanent Supportive Housing (PSH): 16 projects for a total of $1,904,912
Community-based housing that is safe, decent, and affordable along with service referrals to help establish the household for long-term success.
A list of statewide housing projects funded by the HUD award follows. An introduction to the coordinated effort to address Idaho’s issues of homelessness is available in an Idaho Housing report, the Idaho Homelessness Community Report 2016.
