BOISE, Idaho – The Idaho Fair Housing Forum will hold its annual Fair Housing Conference on April 5-6 at Boise City Hall. Four additional workshops will be held across the state during April, traditionally recognized as “Fair Housing Month” to commemorate passage of the Fair Housing Act of 1968, which guarantees equal access to housing.

The two-day conference includes training and guest speakers, with discussions aimed at consumers, providers, advocates and anyone interested in learning about Fair Housing Act rights and responsibilities.

Speakers include Wendy Olson, U.S. attorney for the state of Idaho and Kristina Miller, equal opportunity specialist from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. Miller will attend the Boise conference and statewide workshops, while Olson will be appearing at the Boise conference only.

Workshops will take place in the following cities:

Lewiston: April 18, 2016

Moscow: April 18, 2016

Coeur d’Alene: April 21, 2016

Pocatello: April 26, 2016

Conference topics and workshops are tailored to residential property owners and managers, and cover compliance language assistance, service animals, reasonable accommodation and ADA requirements. The conference and training sessions are free. For registration, webcast and further details visit www.fairhousingforum.org ou appelez le 208-334-1088.

“The need for education about Fair Housing continues to grow within our communities across the state,” said Gerald M. Hunter, president of IHFA. “We are proud to be one of the many partners working to further Fair Housing education in Idaho.”

About the Fair Housing Act

The Fair Housing Act guarantees the right of all people to be free from discrimination in the rental, sale or financing of housing based on race, color, religion, sex, disability, familial status or national origin. The primary aim of the act is to ensure that all persons can live where they choose and can afford. This housing choice in turn determines access to essential community resources such as education, health care, law enforcement and employment opportunities.
